I am trying to do lots of in-person events this year. I hope to announce more soon (once I am confirmed), but I can tell you about the Bourbon Steampunk Convention!
It’s May 8 – 10 (although, because of finals, I won’t be there on Friday) in Louisville, KY. I will be there with my books, which are discounted for in-person events. So if you live near Louisville (or want to travel there to figure out how to correctly pronounce the name), please come visit!

My University is giving out awards to students in Science, Engineering, and Math. I’ve got a flyer for the ceremony on my office door. One of my students saw it and asked about it, thinking there was a test or competition or something similar.
I said that the students who received awards were nominated by faculty. The student then gave me a long, expectant look, clearly wanting to ask if they would receive an award, since they are an excellent math student.
I had to admit that I had completely forgotten about the awards until I was given the flyer, and hadn’t nominated anyone.
So apologies to any students who had hoped for an award. It could be that you are deserving, and your professor just has no memory!
