If you think that Gray paths are self-righteous assholes, then you obviously haven’t many met Light paths. They are a million times worse. They all have massive sticks up their butts that you can see from literally every angle.
The Light is the alliance of the four Light gods: Creation, Purification, Bliss, and Love. Life used to be a Light god too, until Death’s betrayal of the Dark forced her to join the Gray. It’s a proper alliance that the Light gods have. They get along, they agree on most things (and can disagree in a civilized and adult manner), and can even share worshipers. Most Light paths worship all four Light gods equally, though there are people that worship only one.
Like the gods, the four Light lords also work in concert. They sometimes visit the mortal realm, though mostly the Light sections. They most often visit the Prophet and the four Light Councilors, to offer them advice and to pass on orders from the gods. Think of the Light lords in particular as the ultimate middle management positions. They’ve got their own projects too, but only ones that get endorsed by the gods.
The Light is ruled by the Prophet and the four Councilors. Like the Gray, there are elected officials who handle local affairs and regulations, but not much else. There’s no division of labor in the Light. The Prophet is the final word on everything, from military strategy to new laws to discussions from the senate to court cases. Okay, technically, the gods are the final say, but I doubt the Prophet would be allowed to make a decision that the gods would then have to reverse.
The Light has fewer worlds and people than the Gray or the Neutral, but more than the Dark. The laws are way more strict in the law, and Neutrals are not allowed to live on Light worlds — although Light paths often live on Neutral worlds. The main benefit to turning Light is healing. Almost all Light priests are gifted with parrei, and so they can heal pretty much every injury and illness. Other than in the battle, Light paths don’t die young. Mind you, I’d rather die young than live with the billions of stupid Light regulations, but many people do not share that opinion.
And yes, there are that many laws and regulations. About what you can wear, about what you can eat, about how often you have to pray and worship, about every aspect of life. I guess if you agree with all the laws (or at least most of them), then following the laws isn’t a big deal, but I think it’s too much. And dumb. Do the Light gods really care what I eat for breakfast? Because there are way bigger issues they should be worried about.
Between you and me, I think the Light is scared. Remember, there used to be five Light gods, but Life was pulled away from them. I don’t know how much the other Light gods protested that or if they’ve made any attempts to get her back. But the Light is not what it once was. If one of their own could be taken from them, why can’t it happen again to another?
